Beacon North East is part of the national Beacons for Public Engagement initiative.

There are six UK Beacons for Public Engagement, which are funded by the UK Higher Education Funding Councils, Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust.

WHAT IS
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT?

 

We consider public engagement to mean all the ways in which universities, and the individuals working and studying within them, choose to inform, consult and collaborate in relation to their work.

There are many different types of public engagement including - but not limited to:

  • consultations
  • citizen's juries
  • outreach
  • public lectures
  • exhibitions and festivals
  • workshops
  • debates, forums and focus groups
  • collaborative or participatory action research
